Internal employee reward program’s new logo

A quarter of a century ago the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District started an internal employee reward program to promote the exchange of ideas regarding the daily operations of the facility. Fast forward 25 years and there was the same, old an-employee-created-this-in-a-document-editing-program logo that was still being used.

The District asked us to re-design their logo to coincide with the re-launching of their popular award-based program. The logo needed to include a light bulb shape, the District’s brand colors, and the program’s name and tagline. Because the District protects our environment by cleaning our wastewater, a feeling of nature was desired as well.

Ultimately, the final logo was chosen because of the abstract leaf and water droplet that we integrated into the bulb, and a figurative bulb base and drop shadow anchor the “nature” bulb to a perceived flat surface.

The two runner-up logos to the right were clever. They use puzzle pieces to represent the concept of people and ideas coming together. However they lacked that important environment-friendly feeling that the winning logo possessed.

The relaunching of the program was a huge success and the ideas have been flowing in ever since!
