Design Project

The Metro Wastewater Reclamation District Human Resource Department’s logo design encourages employee suggestions.

Scope of Work Included:

  • Creative Direction
  • Logo Design

Background

Over a quarter of a century ago the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District started an internal employee reward program to promote the exchange of ideas regarding the daily operations of the facility. Fast forward 25+ years and there was the same, original “an-employee-created-this-in-a-document-editing-program” logo.

The District asked us to re-design their logo to coincide with the re-launching of their popular award-based program. The logo needed to include a light bulb shape, the District’s brand colors, the program’s name, and tagline. The District protects our environment by cleaning our wastewater, a feeling of nature was desired as well.

Ultimately, the final logo was chosen because of the abstract leaf and water droplet that morphed into a bulb with a figurative bulb base.

The runner-up logos were also clever and unique, using puzzle pieces to represent the concept of people and ideas coming together. However, they lacked the important environment-friendly feeling that the winning logo possessed.

The relaunching of the program was a huge success and the ideas have been flowing in ever since!
